What to Wear on a Long Flight to Stay Comfortable

If you’ve ever been on a long-haul flight, you know the struggle of getting comfortable and staying that way. I’ve been on my fair share of 7+-hour journeys, and knowing what to wear is a game-changer.

These are my go-to outfits, bags, and travel accessories that have made my lengthy trips much more enjoyable.

Comfy Clothes

Whoever says that comfort and looking good are mutually exclusive is wrong. After so many years of traveling, finding clothes that feel like wearing nothing has become my specialty, and these are my favorite outfits for staying cozy during those long travel days.

Kyte Baby Women’s Jogger Pants – $50

Hear me out: Kyte Baby’s adult clothing is my go-to when I don’t know what to wear on a long flight. All the moms out there might already know about Kyte Baby, but if you don’t, you’re in for a treat. Not only are its bamboo baby clothes unbelievably soft for little ones, but the adult clothing is as well. Plus, I can’t pass up the opportunity to wear matching PJs with Felix.

One of my favorite products from Kytle Baby is its jogger pants. They’re thick enough to keep me warm and relaxed on the chilly plane, but still light and breathable. Plus, the soft and stretchy waistband makes the pants feel like pajamas, even though they look like chic athleisure.

Free People Hot Shot Onesie – $70

When I tell you this onesie feels like wearing nothing…I mean it! This chic one-piece is perfect for long flights, because it’s loose, easy to layer, and super soft. Plus, the stretchy fabric allows for freedom of movement, making those long hours in a cramped seat more bearable.

Whether you’re trying to catch some sleep or just lounging while seated, this onesie is the next best thing to being in the buff. You can easily dress it up with a jacket or scarf, so you can look more put-together upon landing.

Outdoor Voices 7/8 Leggings – $80

Travelers who experience swelling in their legs, ankles, and feet during long flights often turn to compression socks and leggings for relief. This snugness supports the muscles and enhances blood circulation while maintaining enough stretch to prevent discomfort.

Outdoor Voices leggings are a great pick for this. Their sleek design makes them a versatile piece in your travel wardrobe, easily paired with a tunic or hoodie. Plus, the moisture-wicking fabric ensures you stay comfortable, whether you’re rushing through the airport or sitting in a cramped seat for hours on end.

Lunya Travel Kit – $298

Nobody likes sitting in a tiny airport seat for multiple hours at a time, and I’ll take any relief I can get on long flights. Even medical experts often warn about the dangers of prolonged sitting, which can restrict blood circulation, cause swelling, and even increase the risk of blood clots. While moving around the cabin is beneficial, wearing the right clothing can also make a significant difference.

The Lunya travel kit includes a basic tank, a long-sleeve tee, leggings, a sleep mask, and socks — everything you need for a cozy flight experience. Each piece in the kit is made from a breathable Pima cotton-blend fabric, which has the comfort of travelers in mind. This fabric is designed to aid in increasing blood flow and oxygen levels, thereby improving circulation during those long hours spent in the air.

Travel Bags

Having the right bag on your flight is just as important as suitable clothing. After all, where will you stash your snacks, books, and other travel goodies while you’re in the air?

Baggallini Large Carryall Tote – $120

The last time I flew to Japan, it was wintertime, so packing smart for the flight was an adventure in itself. the Baggallini Large Carryall Tote proved to be the ultimate carry-on companion. If you need a bag that combines space with simplicity, this tote is a dream come true.

The tote’s design allows for the top to be folded out or in, creating additional space as needed. It features inner pockets perfect for drinks and a zippered pocket for securing valuables. Even though the tote looks quite big, it still fits nicely under the seat in front of you or in the overhead bin. It’s just one of the many Baggallini products I tried recently — you can read about them here!

Osprey Daylite Plus Daypack – $75

Ideal for travelers who need a versatile and comfortable backpack, the Osprey Daylite Plus is a great option. It’s lightweight yet spacious, with enough compartments to organize all your in-flight essentials. The padded shoulder straps and back panel ensure comfort, even when it’s fully packed. This backpack is perfect for those who want a hands-free option that can also double as a daypack upon arrival at their destination.

This pack is small enough to fit under the seat in front of you if you don’t stuff it to the brim. If you do, though, it fits well in the overhead compartment. Since it has plenty of pockets, it’ll be easy to keep all of your things organized, too.

Samsonite Underseat Spinner with USB Port – $105

I’ll admit that the style of this one would not be my first choice, but it’s so compact and practical that it could be a great pick for travelers who need to have their essentials accessible during the flight. It’s designed to fit under most airline seats and has the added bonus of a USB port that allows for convenient charging of devices, so you won’t have to worry about losing battery power on your devices.

Tumi Voyageur Just In Case Tote – $150

If you wouldn’t dare sacrifice your personal style during a long flight, the Tumi Voyageur Just In Case Tote is for you. It’s lightweight, durable, and can be folded and packed into a small pouch when not in use, making it ideal for bringing home extra souvenirs.

I love that it looks like any other handbag, but with the added bonus of being super practical. It also has a strap that allows you to slide the bag onto the handle of your carry-on luggage, so you don’t have to lug it through the airport.

Travel Accessories

No list of what to wear on a long flight is complete without a stellar selection of travel accessories. These are my top picks:

Cabeau Evolution S3 Travel Pillow – $40

Ever tried getting some decent sleep on a flight and ended up with a stiff neck? The Cabeau Evolution S3 Travel Pillow is here to save your day (and neck!). It’s like a cozy cloud, with memory foam that molds to your body. Perfect for catching some ZZZs on your flight without waking up feeling like you’ve been in a wrestling match.

Bose QuietComfort 35 II Noise-Canceling Headphones – $372

I’ll admit that these are a bit of a splurge. But they’re not only useful for a long flight; you can use them throughout your trip and at home, too. Blocking out that constant engine hum and chatter around you on a flight could be a difference between sleeping restfully and waking up every time your seatmate rustles. The Bose QuietComfort 35 II might be your golden ticket to peace and quiet at 30,000 feet. Wear them, and you’re in your own little bubble, making it way easier to relax or get lost in your favorite tunes or movies.

Zestt Organic Cotton Travel Set – $108

The Zestt Organic Cotton Travel Set is like a warm hug you can take on the plane. It’s soft, sustainable, and ultra comfy. The set includes a blanket, an eye mask, and a carrying case that doubles as a pillowcase. Just right if you want to snuggle up and make your seat your personal cozy corner. It sure beats the scratchy airline blankets!

I hope this helps you prepare for your next long-haul flight. After all, the journey through the air doesn’t have to be as uncomfortable as it seems.
